F-Secure is an anti-virus and computer security software company based in Helsinki, Finland. The company has large branch offices in the USA and Japan, where some of the antivirus analysis and software development work is also being carried on. Things went smooth for folks in that company for quite some time, until...disaster struck. In came the Wii from Nintendo and every analyst was infected. Ironical for a company working on antiviruses, wouldn't you say?

Although it's a more of a joke, it really did happen as Sean posts this on the official site: “Lab members were infected that day and two more soon followed. Kamil's Wii was immediately tested in the lab, and frankly, productivity just might have taken a hit. Wii is very infectious. Good thing it was a Friday.” Does it even surprise you? What stupid animal wouldn't dig the Wii even just a little?

The Wii is fun no doubt about it and surely a little addictive too, but it's not stopping folks at F-Secure to work on ...whatever it is they do out there (I'm not that cultivated when it comes to computers and antiviruses), so don't worry if you're using one of their protection softwares, they still dedicate some 5 minutes a day on updates and stuff like that. Kidding, but really now, everyone needs a time off and especially analysts who carry out a tremendous amount of brain work.

Not only do folks over at F-Secure dig the Wii, but they've become Wii Sports experts, especially Tennis: “...we might as well make the best of it! If you're a game developer and want some beta testers – contact us via the Weblog's e-mail address. Tennis. We want more Tennis especially. And we're quite willing to assist accessory makers as well. Cheers!” Beat that Sony and Microsoft!

Check out the video below. It's guys at F-Secure playing Wii Tennis. It's probably not their best time with the Wii yet, 'cause they don't look that excited to me.

Those HDTV owners lucky enough to have a Wii may well know the sting of the Wii component cable shortage; with the ~$2 part (cost, not retail) fetching upwards of $100 on eBay, we think Blaze may have just saved the day with its $6.71 3rd party Wii component cables. Unfortunately even those are on backorder until this Thurdsay, the 30th, and even then you have to buy it from the same totally unimpeachable operation that brought you the Wii glove. So either way it looks like your ass is going to be rocking the 480i until further notice.

So it looks like the family of that California woman who died of water intoxication after participating in a radio station-sponsored contest will only be able to find the justice they seek in civil, and not criminal, court, as the Sacramento County district attorney has decided not to file charges against 107.9 The End or any of its employees (or ex-employees, as the case may be, since many were fired as a result of the January 12th incident). In a statement released to the press, D.A. Jan Scully argued that 28-year-old single mom Jennifer Strange knew exactly what she was getting into when she signed up to compete for that Wii, and that her lack of symptoms while chugging down those two gallons of water relieved station employees of any culpability. Of course the Strange family still has the opportunity to hit The End's owner, Entercom, where it hurts, when they face the company in court to seek what will likely be millions of dollars over Strange's alleged wrongful death. Now we're no lawyers, but we've watched enough courtroom dramas to feel confident opining on the finer points of the law, and we're predicting a quiet out of court settlement here -- because even if jurors believe that the DJ's lacked malicious intent and took the proper precautions, the fact that they come off like callous buffoons during the broadcast should be enough to convince the defense that a trial is not the best option.
